Race to Space

Come gaze at the stars!
Take in the night sky with real astronomers to guide you. The Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy hosts this incredible event on Hospitality Island in the lakebed. Telescopes of all shapes and sizes and astronomers are on hand to show some of the natural phenomenon happening above. All ages are welcome to join!

Please Note:
- PLEASE park in the dirt lot near the restrooms and try to keep your headlights off of the island. When you approach, turn your phone screen light all the way down and use that or use a red light. Flashlights and bright screens will mean another 20 minutes before everyone’s eyes adjust!
- Security is on site and guests are not permitted to wander to other parts of the facility during this event.
- Camping guests are welcome to join!
- Spectators are asked to park on the perimeter of the island. If leaving or arriving during the event, try to keep headlights off the group as much as possible.
- Children of all ages are welcome, please be careful of tripping hazards and obstacles in the dark
- Guests are welcome to bring chairs or blankets.
