Del Rey Oaks Councilman Invites You to the DRO Pride Flag Raising Event 2023

Del Rey Oaks, CA – Councilmember John Uy of Del Rey Oaks proudly invites you to join us for the DRO Pride Flag Raising Event 2023, a celebration of Love, Unity, and Diversity. This vibrant and inclusive event will take place on June 1, 2023 (Thursday), from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Del Rey Oaks City Hall.

The event will commence with a ceremonial portion at Del Rey Oaks City Hall, where Councilmember John Uy will warmly welcome you as the emcee for the evening. We will begin with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by opening remarks from Del Rey Oaks Mayor Scott Donaldson, who will set the tone for the festivities.

Professor Daniel B. Summerhill, the first Monterey County Poet Laureate, will share his captivating poetry with the audience, enriching the atmosphere with his words. The event will feature esteemed guest speakers, including The Honorable Yuri Anderson, Monterey Peninsula College Board Member and Chief of Staff for Supervisor Wendy Root Askew, The Honorable Alex Garcia-Arrazola, Seaside Councilmember and District Representative for Assemblymember Dawn Addis, Ms. Isabel Meza, the District Representative for California Senator John Laird, and Ms. Xochitl Guerrero, the District Representative for U.S. Congressman Jimmy Panetta.

We are honored to have as our Guest Speaker of Honor, Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto, the first woman, first openly LGBTQ, and first Hispanic Sheriff of Monterey County. Her inspiring words will resonate with the community, highlighting the progress we have made and the work that lies ahead.

To mark the occasion, Del Rey Oaks residents Ms. Joetta Grant and Ms. Jessica Vargas will raise the Inclusive Progress Pride Flag, symbolizing our commitment to equality and inclusivity.

The ceremonial portion will conclude with a closing song by Rouge Roulette, captivating the audience with their beautiful melodies.

Following the ceremonial activities, we will embark on a Pride Walk from Del Rey Oaks City Hall to Del Rey Park, where the reception portion of the event will take place.

Councilmember John Uy will deliver a warm welcome speech at Del Rey Park, setting the stage for an evening of fellowship and celebration. Rainbow Cake and colorful food will be available for all to enjoy as we indulge in a delightful spread.

While everyone savors the culinary delights, speeches, and performances will take place, adding an extra touch of entertainment to the festivities. The first dazzling performance by Rouge Roulette will kick off the entertainment, followed by speeches from Councilmember Kim Shirley of the City of Del Rey Oaks and Councilmember Brian McCarthy of the City of Marina. The second dazzling performance by Rouge Roulette will continue to mesmerize the audience, leading up to speeches by Councilmember Bill Ragsdale-Cronin of the City of Del Rey Oaks and Councilmember Anthony Rocha of the City of Salinas.

Former Del Rey Oaks Mayor Alison Kerr will deliver inspirational remarks, reminding us of the progress we have made as a community and the challenges we still face. The event will culminate with a final performance by Rouge Roulette, leaving us in awe of their talent and energy.

To capture the essence of this memorable event, our skilled photographer, Jasmin G.B., will preserve the moments of love, light, and timeless beauty, ensuring that these cherished memories are forever immortalized.

Dancing and music will be the perfect finale for the evening, allowing everyone to celebrate in harmony and unity.

Join us for this enchanting event, where love, diversity, and unity will take center stage. Together, we can create a future that is inclusive, accepting, and proud. So let us raise our voices and flags high as we celebrate the vibrant spirit of Del Rey Oaks and the LGBTQ+ community.
