Buddhist Temple of Salinas, 100th Year Anniversary 2024

Buddhist Temple of Salinas, located at 14 California Street in Salinas Chinatown will be celebrating 100th year anniversary since founding on October 12, 2024 with a celebratory service at the temple starting at 10 AM.   Service is open to the public.  Following the service, there will be a luncheon at the gym and this event is paid entry event.  Buddhist Temple of Salinas was founded by Japanese immigrants settling in the Salinas and nearby areas in early 1900s.  In 1924, a group of Japanese immigrants met to found the temple and the building was finished in later 1926. The temple grew into a large congregation but all came to a stop during the war, when all the Japanese were put into concentration camps. Only a few returned after the war, and the temple gradually rebuilt its membership.  The temple celebrates its long history and contribution to the cultural diversity of Salinas.
