SUMMARY:An Evening with the Curator: Wendy Van Wyck Good
DESCRIPTION:Join curator Wendy Van Wyck Good for a guided tour of The Bruton Sisters: Modernism in the Making.\n\n\nJoin curator Wendy Van Wyck Good for a guided tour of The Bruton Sisters: Modernism in the Making. Wendy will discuss the fascinating lives of these local women artists\, their impact on the modern art scene in California\, and why they were nearly forgotten by the time of their deaths. She’ll also describe the Brutons’ unique techniques and innovative approach to materials as she offers a deeper dive into some of the works on display. \n \nWendy Van Wyck Good is an author\, librarian\, and archivist with a special interest in women’s history. Originally from Upstate New York\, she held positions at the Rosenbach Museum & Library in Philadelphia and at the Women’s Museum in Dallas before moving to California’s Monterey Peninsula in 2005. Wendy studied the region’s fascinating history while working as a reference librarian in the local history department of the Carmel Library and as an archivist at Monterey Peninsula College. \n \nIn 2018 Wendy first encountered the work of the Bruton sisters–women artists from her local community–and began researching their lives and careers. She is the foremost Bruton scholar in the nation and the author of Sisters in Art (West Margin Press\, 2021)\, the first biography of Margaret\, Esther\, and Helen Bruton.
