SUMMARY:Choral Artists of Carmel Winter Concert
DESCRIPTION:Choral Artists of Carmel will present their winter concert\, entitled Metamorphosis of Swans\, on Sunday\, January 25\, from 3:00–4:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Monterey. \nThe concert will feature the world premiere of the opera Metamorphosis of Swans\, composed by choir member Heather Green. Ms. Green is a Wagnerian soprano and composer residing in Berlin\, Germany. The premiere of her opera will include arias\, as well as choral pieces sung by the Choral Artists of Carmel. The music and lyrics are based upon Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale\, The Wild Swans\, a classic story of perseverance and the transformative power of love. \nThe opera premiere will highlight a number of exceptional performers. Soprano Jody Lee from the Monterey Peninsula and soprano Emily Schuck from San Francisco will be the soloists for the aria\, “What is Left?” In addition\, Ms. Lee will premiere the duet\, “Call\,” with Ms. Green. Also featured will be the poem Wings\, written by conductor Robin McKee Williams and set by Ms. Green for SATB (Soprano\, Alto\, Tenor\, and Bass) voices and oboe. Peter Lemberg will be the oboe soloist. \nThe Choral Artists of Carmel will also perform the West Coast premiere of Ola Gjeilo’s The Road\, accompanied by David Dally’s Monterey Strings and harpist Pamela Scholz. The Great Flowing River and Calling From Afar\, both by James Eakin\, and They Will Rise by British composer Jonathan Dove will also be performed by the choir. \nZoom interviews with composers James Eakin\, Jonathan Dove\, and Heather Green are available at www.youtube.com/@choralartistsofcarmel and www.choralartistsofcarmel.org. \nRobin McKee Williams continues to support newly composed choral works and showcase the talents of the Choral Artists of Carmel\, which includes well-established professional singers from San Francisco\, San Diego\, New York\, and Germany. The concert\, Metamorphosis of Swans\, will present a rich experience of choral\, orchestral\, and solo music to inspire the Monterey Peninsula. \nThere is a suggested donation of $30. Tickets will be available at the door. \nFor more information\, call 831-809-9112 or email choralartistsofcarmel@gmail.com. \n  \nWings \nLong abandoned in a valley not known by my heart\nInvisible tears did not fall or find sunlight.\nAn ever reaching light\, sight spilling vision for all\,\nI did not see.\nI did not hear. \nThe breaking of my heart has given me wings.\nEven when the shine of day surrounded me\nAnd a long frozen winter remained too long\,\nI came to know this was and is my gift of a lifetime.\nThis is my new beginning. \nMy heart is lifted to a love higher than sound can hold.\nMy moment has fallen into the palm of love’s hope to feel unreachable dreams. \nI give thanks for the moments when sadness has given fully to my heart\nAnd love remains to guide my steps ever forward. \nRobin McKee Williams

SUMMARY:The Language of Architecture: Decoding Built Messages\, with architect Elisabeth Cannell
DESCRIPTION:This program introduces the language of architecture: how structures impart culture\, identity\, and values through form\, materials\, and design. Just as spoken and written language shapes our understanding of the world\, architecture communicates\, overtly and covertly\, influencing how we feel\, move\, and connect with it. By decoding this language\, we uncover the stories our built environment tells—and the meaning it carries. The program will start with particularly “legible” examples and how to read them. It will then move toward the local with a look at interpreting the architectural language of the Carmel region and its design and construction legacy\, including the iconic Harrison Memorial Library\, a rich example of architectural storytelling rooted in regional identity and craftsmanship.

SUMMARY:Exhibition - After The Human. After Technology
DESCRIPTION:Today\, as technology increasingly shapes how we see\, think\, and act\, it becomes urgent to ask: what is the role of technology in art? How does technological advancement—particularly artificial intelligence—reshape human society\, ethics\, and historical trajectories? How are visual perception and aesthetic judgment reshaped through technological mediation? What is the evolving role of human imagination within algorithmic systems? And what consequences does this acceleration carry for our environment?\nAfter the Human\, After Technology is a curated exhibition that examines how contemporary artists respond to a world increasingly shaped by technological acceleration. The exhibition brings together artists who approach these questions from different yet interconnected positions. Highlighted artists include David Bowen\, whose work operates at the intersection of art\, technology\, and climate\, transforming real-time environmental data into generative systems that question how technology mediates our relationship with the natural world; David Aston\, whose practice examines the ethical implications of artificial intelligence and predictive technologies and their influence on human society; and Alana Balagot\, whose kinetic and interactive works explore shifts in visual aesthetics by merging classical illusion with contemporary electronic and machinic systems.\nExhibition from Feb 8th – March 8th\, 2026 with opening reception on Feb 8th\, 2026 14:00 – 17:00\nRSVP to 650-796-2421 for private view appointment.
