SUMMARY:Santa Cruz Shakespeare's "Master Harold"... and The Boys
DESCRIPTION:Santa Cruz Shakespeare invites you to experience Athol Fugard’s “Master Harold”…and The Boys\, under the trees and stars of the Audrey Stanley Grove in Santa Cruz’s DeLaveaga Park this September.  \nSet in the apartheid era of South Africa\, we find ourselves in the tea shop of Harold’s family. Young Hally\, who is white\, spends the afternoon after school in the shop with two of the family’s servants\, Sam and Willie\, who are black. Over the course of 90 minutes\, we bear witness to the shifting relationship between all of them; a relationship built both on love and respect\, as well as one built on bigotry and institutionalized racism. Fugard’s autobiographical masterpiece is both joyous and brutal\, with an ending that will leave you both stunned and inspired.   \nPlaywright Fugard’s death in March of this year was a loss to Santa Cruz Shakespeare and the larger theatre community. SCS is especially grateful to produce Fugard’s work this year and honor his legacy.  \n“Master Harold”… and The Boys runs September 4 through September 20\, with Opening Night on September 5.  \nTickets available for purchase starting May 1. DESCRIPTION:Palenke Arts proudly presents Latin Grammy Nominees\, Los Tangueros de Oeste: a Nuevo Tango ensemble steeped in the styles of Astor Piazzolla\, Tanghetto\, Gotan Project and Bajo Fondo\, as well as the classic Tango of the Golden Era. \nFocusing on original compositions\, the group blends beats and textures from Hip-Hop and Electronica with Flamenco influences filtered through an improvisational lens. Their singular Nuevo Tango sound is cool\, impassioned\, sensuous\, seductive and utterly dance-inducing. Featuring the golden voice of singer/flutist Daniel Riera\, the piano virtuosity of up and coming pianist Diego Ramil\, the bandoneon mastery of Adrian Jost (Trio Garufa)\, the Flamenco inflected strumming of Venezuelan master guitarist Carlos Caminos and the emotionally lyrical sounds of violinist Charith Premawardhana (Classical Revolution)\, surrounded by the lush compositions of bassist/composer/bandleader Sascha Jacobsen (Trio Garufa\, The Musical Art Quintet)\, their music is as much for Tango lovers as it is an opening for all listeners into this magical world. \nLos Tangueros del Oeste will perform a mix of modern original Tango and Classic Tango from the Golden Era\, with a few masterworks by Astor Piazzolla thrown in to complete the night.
